The Mexico City and Oaxaca vacation package is nine nights across two cities where the rain runs to a schedule. It is the least weather-exposed trip on this site, and the page below states what that protects and what it does not.
What weather proof means here
Rain here keeps a timetable. From June to September cloud builds over both valleys through the afternoon and drops its water between roughly 4pm and 9pm, then clears. Nothing on these nine days needs a clear sky: the markets are under roofs, the museums are indoors, and the two sites are walked before noon. A wet week costs you a change of shirt and a later dinner.
- What the weather can cancel
- One item only: the dawn balloon flight over the Teotihuacan valley, which needs surface wind under about 8 mph and a cloud base above the ridge. Everything else across the nine days happens under a roof or before noon.
- How often it actually happens
- Balloons stay on the ground about one dawn in five from June to September and roughly one in eight from November to March. Afternoon rain itself is close to certain in the wet half, 17 rain days in Mexico City in July and 14 in Oaxaca in June, and it falls after 4pm.
- What you do instead
- If a spare morning is left in your Mexico City block, the flight moves to it. If not, you walk the site on foot with the guide from 8am, before the gates fill, and the rest of that day runs unchanged.
- What money comes back
- None from us. The nights, the internal flight, the transport, the guides and the entries all take place whatever the sky does. The balloon fee is the only line that comes back, and it comes back from the company that flies it, usually inside two weeks.
- Who should not book this
- Anyone who wants sun and a beach, and anyone who cannot spend nine days between 5,100 and 7,350 feet with no sea level day in the middle. If a wet late afternoon spoils the evening for you, do not take June to September dates.
The fourth row is the one this trade prints smallest, and on most of these trips it says nothing comes back. It stands above the price deliberately.
What the price covers
- Nine nights on two sharing: five in central Mexico City, four within a ten minute walk of the Oaxaca zocalo.
- The domestic flight between the two cities, one hour and five minutes in the air, and both airport transfers.
- Six meals eaten with the people who cooked them, including two market breakfasts and one long lunch out in the Tlacolula valley.
- Entry and a guide for four museums and two archaeological sites, the pyramid complex north of the capital and the hilltop ruins above the Oaxaca valley, both walked before 11am while it is cool.
- Two market mornings with a buyer who actually shops there, one city each.
- All local ground transport on scheduled days, including the 90 minute run out to Teotihuacan and back.
- A printed day plan with the indoor alternate for each afternoon already named, so nobody is inventing one in a doorway.

- Getting to Mexico. Round trip fares into Mexico City run from about $320 out of Texas and $450 from the northeast, priced on their own after the dates are set.
- Dinner on four of the nine evenings, left open deliberately.
- The dawn balloon flight over the Teotihuacan valley, about $180 per person, paid to the company that flies it.
- Tips, laundry, and whatever you carry home out of a market.
- Travel insurance, which this agency does not arrange and does not name a source for.

The months this reads well in, and the two stretches it does not
The Mexico City and Oaxaca vacation package runs all twelve months, and rain is not what separates them. November to March is dry: Mexico City logs under two rain days a month from December to February, mornings near 43F and afternoons at 72F, with Oaxaca about ten degrees warmer at both ends.
June to September is the wet half and it still holds. July puts 17 rain days on the Mexico City calendar, but the rainfall is packed into the evening; before noon it is dry roughly four days in five. Oaxaca gets a midsummer break in late July and early August when the storms thin out for two or three weeks.
Two stretches we would talk you out of. The last ten days of September, when the remains of a Pacific system can sit over the highlands and turn the evening shower into two inches spread across a whole day, the one pattern that reaches the morning plan. And the second half of April, when Mexico City is hottest and haziest: highs near 81F, little wind, and several days a month with an air quality warning posted.
What gets settled when you confirm
Four things stay open until confirmation. Which city takes the extra night, since five and four can go either way. Which direction you fly, because starting in Oaxaca lands you at 5,100 feet and leaves the climb to 7,350 for later, which suits anyone who has felt altitude before. Where the Teotihuacan day sits, since putting it early leaves a second dawn behind it for the balloon. And bed configuration, one bed or two, which we ask rather than assume.
